OGR – Officine Grandi Riparazioni of Turin is pleased to present a solo show by the eminent artist Tino Sehgal (London, 1976), the first of a series of individual exhibitions which will take place in Binario 1, in the north wing of the building.

Sehgal – awarded with the Golden Lion at the 2013 Venice Biennale – is back in Italy for the first time with a personal project, after realising the 2008 exhibition with Fondazione Nicola Trussardi and representing Germany at the 2005 Venice Biennale. For OGR’s broad spaces he has devised a complex choreography involving fifty performers, conceived as a unique great movement constantly changing over the week. In fact, a set of specific “situations” will originate from what Sehgal defines a “swarm” of bodies, a choreography presenting movements specifically created for this occasion. In this presentation, individual works of art by the artist – considered as discrete entities separated from one another and from their manufacturing process – will become scenes or moments, elements temporarily taking a form, in a game of encounters responding to specific circumstances: the number of spectators, their way of interacting, or the time of day when these encounters are taking place.

Tino Sehgal is unanimously acknowledged as one of the most important artists of his generation. His education, which blends dance studies (Essen) and economics (Berlin) is deeply reflected in his research. By questioning the model based on the transformation of raw materials into consumer goods, Sehgal sees languages like dance and music as alternative paradigms to current production models. Human body movements and singing become here the only expressive materials of a practice that does not leave any physical by-products. Through these “immaterial” forms and by not documenting his works, the artist conveys a deep reflection on the manufacturing and distribution of consumer goods.

OGR present Transnatural shop, a new space dedicated to books, objects and editions, conceived by the Catalan designer Martí Guixé for OGR. OGR is a place for production where events, exhibitions, fablab, start-up and food are able to offer new experiences, new solutions, efficiency and innovation. For this reason, Transnatural shop is a spiritual place, though inhabited by real things; a place where books and objects are celebrated as a way to spread immaterial values, knowledge and culture. It’s a closed space and however everyone can feel free, is a quite and grounded room but it’s also immaterial. This idea is well expressed in the volumes, solid and static like stones, and in the use of light, which links the indoor and the outdoor. Transnatural shop is about culture and its inner power.
